The 4th of July

Published by dglerom3041 at 3:21 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

Tomorrow marks the best day in our nation’s history. When I think back on how many unselfish men and women gave their lives to better a nation it brings tears to my eyes. I cannot fathem how unselfish people were back in those days. I can only hope and pray people would still be unselfish in modern times. I enlisted in the Marine Corps in 2006, and I have never met so many good-hearted people. The times have changed, but the people who voluntarily enlist in the military still seem to have the same goals and outlook on life. There is always a service to be done in this world. The 4th of July needs to be remembered for what it really stands for, not just beers and bbq and fun. It’s our Independance Day. Many people died for us to have this celebration, and they would have wanted us to celebrate it any way we wanted to within regulation, because they died for us to be free.

When I think about how this country was visioned by the founding father’s in the 18th century, they havd a good idea of how they wanted this country to be constructed. The Declaration of Independance and Constitution was written and is still pretty much in tact in modern times. That is hard to swallow when you think about when they were both written. The ideals of living in a free country based on a checks and balances system with the state and federal courts, is still carried out today. This is the greatest nation in the world. The best qualities of this nation resides in the idea of life, liberty and freedom. We are at liberty to express our beliefs, religions, and rhetoric in this great country. The men and women who gave thier lives so freely in battle, died for us to live freely. We broke away from British rule in 1776, and we have been a living role model for all nations who aspire to enjoy a life of freedom. I know today’s war in Iraq has been carried on for far too long, and the soldier’s may grow weary from the duration, but if you still ask the majority of them today, they are proud to help those people who do not have a life of freedom. Our soldier’s still fight for freedom and justice even if they necessarily believe in the war. They are the epitimy of true self-sacrifice. I only wish I could still be considered a Marine. My two year probation is over in September of 2008, and hopefully I am able to rejoin the fine men and women who I admire very much. The freedoms we have in this country are solely because soldiers died for that to be so. There have been many conflicts in our world today that have been the cause of religious, political and governing differences. I am not sure how this world is going to work itself out with everything that had been happening with terrorist attacks, and suicide bombings. The world that we love and have help create seems to be meeting its demise. The freedom that has been given to us by our fallen soldiers is under attack in our world today.

The greatest asset in our daily lives, freedom, is also leading to our demise in my opinion. The freedoms and luxuries we Americans have been fortunate to have are being taken advantage of by persons who do not appreciate life, liberty and freedoms. We are letting people into this country who do not love life as most people in the world do. Unfortunately, there are people who believe killing people in the name of their god, allows them live a life of riches and prosperity in their religious afterlife. I do not care what religion you come from, whether it be Catholocism, Islam, Atheist, or whatever, killing another human being for personal gain is not acceptable! People are plotting to destroy this great country our soldiers have died protecting and some citizens in this country are protecting the rights of citizens who aren’t even legal citizens. Everyone is entitled to life and prosperity, but there is a right and a wrong way to achieve it. There is due process in everything we do in life. Foriegners come to our country illegally, and we protect them by passing laws that protect their rights when they aren’t even citizens. This is a sensitive subject and most people like to avoid it, but when home grown American citizens are losing jobs because illegal aliens come to this country and take below or minimum wage jobs, American citizens are being terminated from their jobs. We need to protect our homeland security and citizens first. Our Soldiers died for our countrymen and women. The freedoms we allow all citizens to have, people unfortunately take advantage of. Now, our freedoms are slowly being taken away, for example the PATRIOT ACT. Laws are now mandated because people havee destroyed this country so many people died trying to build. Innocent people have been the victims of terrorist attacks, and some of our citizens criticize how our government is being run. Everybody thinks they need to be compensated and given free handouts because they are “entitled” to it. Our soldiers died and they didn’t ask for anything! They signed the papers, enlisted, and willingly sacrificed their lives so people can bitch and complain about how this country is ran. That’s alright. That’s freedom. There is just a right and a wrong way to complain. There is one story imparticular I want to describe.

I cannot recall the military branch this male was apart of, but I remember several years back he died for this country while serving in Iraq or Afghanistan. Now, I remember his mother was very upset because she believed the soldiers should not have been over there in the first place. She had every right to voice her opinion about the matter, and I do sympathize with the loss of her son. I deeply do sympathize for her loss. However, she decided to go to President Bush’s ranch in Texas, and protest the loss of her son. I wonder what her son would have thought about this? He voluntarily sacrificed his life like a good man and his mother was apparently in distress for her loss. She knew what her son was getting into when he enlisted. Soldiers die. If I was to die when I was to die when I was in the Marine Corps, I hope my mother would understand. (I know have gotten a little sidetracked) but there are things needed to be said about our country that go unnoticed. My whole topic is based upon the reasoning that “FREEDOM IS NOT FREE.” I believe we need to earn everything we aspire to desire and obtain in our lives. Just take a moment of silence this 4th of July to thank all our servicemen and women who have died and or serving in our military today. Thank you for your time in reading this. Oorah! Semper Fi.
